Because He Lives, Mar 23, 2008

Because He Lives
1 Corinthians 15:1-19

Gospel = Good News
– Receiving Jesus is not about “just trying Him on” it’s an all or nothing deal.
– We’ve all sinned, there’s no way around it. But Jesus Christ died for all of our sins and now He lives.
– It’s not about stuff, it’s about Jesus’ death, burial, resurrections, and now lives.
– Christ died for me.

Because He lives:
1. We can have life
  – 2 Cor. 5:8, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord
  – Rev. 21:4, Jesus has taken the sting out of death and because He live, we have life

2. We have hope
  – 1 Peter 1:3-5, by faith we’re shielded by God’s power
  – Even when trouble comes, God is still God and my shield
  – Ps. 30:5
  – after the cross there’s resurrection
  – after the night there’s morning
  – after death there’s life
  – after dispair there’s hope
  – and always with Him, the best is yet to come
  – “The church is the only society on earth that never loses a member through death. As a Christian, I do not just believe in life after death, but life through death.” David Watson

3. We have freedom
  – John 8:34-36, God saves us, not to just go to heaven, but to be His glory on earth too. I have freedom
  – 1 John 3:8

4. We have a message
  – no other religion has a God that raised from the dead
  – 2 Tim. 1:10
  – Acts 17:31

“The Gospel is good news, only if it arrives in time.” Carl F. H. Henry

Red Dot Green Dot Living, Mar 16, 2008

Red Dot Green Dot Living
Luke 12:1-40

Red dots represent anything that doesn’t last (like things that you own),
green dots represent everything that’s going to last – like people.

Red dot things are always less valuable than green dot things.

Relationships with people are more important than things that happen to stuff that doesn’t last.

All my stuff is going to someone else eventually, so do your giving while your living so you’re knowing where it’s going.

Food and clothing are essentials that God promised us, everything beyond that is just stuff.

Green dot living is:
1. Understanding that our life is not about how much stuff we have

2. Storing up treasure in heaven
  – nothing can touch it
  – wherever you want your heart to go, get your giving to go there

3. Understanding that godliness with contentment is great gain

4. Realizing that we brought nothing into this world and we’ll take nothing out of it
  – 1 Tim. 6:7

5. Not loving money and pursuing the right things
  – 1 Tim. 6:9-11
  – faith, righteous living, gentleness, godliness, all matter more than money
  – money is not the problem, it’s the love of money that’s the problem

6. Leveraging money/stuff for eternal purposes
  – Luke 16:1-13

7. Giving to the relief of the poor
  – Prov. 19:17, Lev. 19:10, Duet. 15:11, Job 34:19, Ps. 82:3, Prov. 14:21; 14:31; 21:17; 22:9; 28:27; 31:20, Isa. 58:7; 61:1, Mark 10:21

Now is the time to:
– confront
– reform
– implement

 – prayer is my greatest weapon as a Christian

John 15:7
 – as people of praise, we need to experience praising God because it releases faith

Faith: Is it in you? Mar 2, 2008

Faith: Is it in you?

Do I have confidence in the Word of God? It’s the Word of God that will not change.
