The Scarlet Thread, Nov 28, 2010

Josh 2:11-21

– is there a scarlet thread in your window? (the window of your heart as a constant reminder)
– death passes over because it can’t touch the blood
– the first mark of discipleship of Jesus is obedience
– Rehab’s obedience saved her and her family
– God can bring anybody into redemption
– thankful for the scarlet thread of salvation
– scarlet thread is all through the Bible as a symbol and reminder of God’s plan to redeem us

The blood…
– purchased us for the Father (Acts 20:28)
– forgive us of our sins (Col. 1:14)
– redeems us (Eph. 1:17)
– destroys the works of the devil (Heb. 2:14)
– justifies us (Rom. 5:9)
– reconciles us to God (Rom. 5:10)
– helps us to serve God (Heb. 13:21)
– established a new and better covenant (Heb. 12:24)
– purifies us (Heb. 9:22)
– cleanses us (Rev. 1:5)
– heals us (Isa. 3:5)
– sets us free from captivity (Zech. 9:11)
– saves us from wrath (Rom. 5:9) and spiritual death (John 6:52-54)
– causes: Jesus to live in us (John 6:56) and us to overcome (Rev. 12:11)
– gives us:
  – access to the Holy of Holies (Heb. 10:19)
  – boldness (Heb. 10:19)
  – prosperity (Zech. 9:11-12)
  – life (John 5:53)
– frees us from:
  – grief and sorrow (Isa. 53:4-5)
  – fear (1 John 4:18)
  – the curse (Gal. 3:13)
– makes us:
  – holy (Heb. 10:29)
  – righteous (Rom. 3:24-26)
  – complete (Heb. 13:21)
– brings us:
  – life (John 6:53)
  – protection (Ex. 12:13)
  – peace (Col. 1:20)
  – blessings (1 Cor. 10:16)
  – near to the Father (Eph. 2:13)

Giving Thanks, Nov 21, 2010

Heb. 4:1-3 – if you don’t take what you hear, mix it with faith, and act upon it, it won’t profit you or be of any value. Faith without works is dead (James 2:17)
– my spirit, my soul (including my mind and emotions), and my body are all to be sanctified for God, for His glory.

I am thankful for what God has done because:
1. He’s not given me a spirit of fear. Don’t receive what God hasn’t given you. Plenty of people want to give you a spirit of fear.

2. He’s not turned away my prayer or His mercy from me (Ps. 66:20)

3. He’s not dealt with me according to my sins (Ps. 103:10-14)
  – sometimes I want to sin even though I kjnow it’s wrong

4. He’s disciplined me but hasn’t let me die (Ps. 118:18)
  – if I’m not dead, God’s not done with me yet

5. He’s saved me and not condemned me (John 3:16-18)

6. He’s not entered into a holy place made by human hands (Heb. 9:24-28)

7. He’s not yet revealed what we will be (1 John 3:2)
  – life on this earth is only temporary

8. He’s made us friends of God (Rom. 5:1-11)

– don’t focus on what you bring to the table, but what God has brought to the table

The Fatherhood of God, Jim Hodges, Nov 14, 2010

The Fatherhood of God, Eph. 3:14-15

– it’s hard for people to get the concept of God as our Father
– God IS Father – not LIKE our Father

5 Dimensions of our Father:
1. Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 1:3) – father-son relationship
  – God is a relational God, He wants to relate to you and me

2. Father of mercies and all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3-7) – and forgiveness

3. Father of spirits (Heb. 12:7-11) – He disciplines those He loves
  – discipline is not just correction, but affirmation and encouragement because He
     corrects those he loves

4. Father of lights (James 1:17) – my calling and vocation, I’m to be His light in a dark world
  – He’s called me in every part of my life

5. Father of glory (Eph. 1:17) – influence and a heavy-weight
  – releasing revelation and wisdom for us to fulfill the destiny He has for us
  – no matter your age, God still has a destiny for you that will have Godly influence

– our identity is rooted in God’s fatherhood
– we’re to identify our function through God’s identity
– Satan tried to get Jesus to act independently of God, instead Jesus only did what He saw the Father do
– the enemy is attacking our identity

Ps. 68:5-6, John 14:18
