No Journey Too Far, Pastor Adam, Jan 30, 2011

Gen. 37 – 47

Seven patterns of reaction:
1. Aggressive pattern: feelings of getting even or revenge (Rom. 12:17-21)
2. Passive pattern: feeling sorry for yourself, self-pity, low self-esteem, depression
3. Holding pattern: bottling emotions, letting them eat at you, hurts relationships with others
4. Worry pattern: feelings of uncertainty, looking for stability in anything (Luke 12:22-34)
5. Abrasive pattern: living in constant tension, preparing for the worst, negative comments and attitude, gossip, abuse (Eph. 4:29-32)
6. Forgiveness pattern: walking in forgiveness (Matt. 5:43-48)
7. Joy pattern: what?!?!?! (James 1:2-18)

How do we persevere in our lives as Christians?
– keep your eyes on Jesus – not circumstances
– draw near to Jesus
– hold fast and confess
– get connected to a house of God
– let us stir one another

Re-alignment, Part 3, Jan 23, 2011

– God has given me His Word so I can find true north
– I tend to head towards where my focus is
– I need people who will help me stay on course and speak the truth in love to me

Rom. 12:1-2
– renewing my mind helps keep me on course
– my flesh is always weak and not willing to bow to the Spirit
– if I’m awakened in the middle of the night, I should open God’s Word and dig in and pray

Matt. 6:19-34
– I can’t serve both God and money. I need to decide which will be my focus
– divine appointments don’t come with my agenda, but I need to be willing
– believe that God will provide for my needs. Birds are a good example

Re-alignment, Part 2, Jan 16, 2011

Matt 6:1-34
– we must become a people that align ourselves with God
– every thought and every action needs to come into alignment with God’s Word
– what are you ultimately living for?
– whan you pray, don’t use vain repitions
– if your image of God as your Father is distored, pray that He reveals Himself as He really is to you
– the banner over me is God’s love, not the banners that the world tries to put on me
– exposure to God will make us more like Him
– may re-alignment happen so we can see our Father as He is.

Aligning With The Heart of God, Jan 9, 2011

It’s time for alignment
– wanting to do something is NOT the same as actually doing something
– is God really my everything? If so, then why am I so afraid to let go or trust Him with somethings?

Hosea 7:8-11
– we mix with unbelief and we didn’t even notice it
– we’ll turn to other things
– you can’t be frustrated over things you allow and can control

Ways we deny the heart of God (1 Cor. 13:4-6)
– God says, “You deny My love when you’re impatient” being impatient is hurtful to others and denies God’s love
– every time I’m unkind, I’m denying the love of God to others and to me
– we’re denying God’s love when we’re envious
Rom. 5:5 – we quench the Holy Spirit when we deny the love of God
– when we’re boastful and proud, we’re denying the love of God
– pride blocks me from seeing myself as I really am
– love is not rude – we’re denying God’s love when we’re rude
– we must rid ourselves of the things love is not (v. 4-6)
– God is my everything
– when we’re selfish we’re denying God’s love
– when we get angry easily, we’re denying God’s love
