Everything Must Bow in His Presence, Feb 7, 2010

1 Sam. 5:1-12;7:1-6
If God doesn’t have every place in my life, then He doesn’t have any place in my life

False gods in America today:
Baal . . . the god of sex
Mammon . . . the god of money
Molek . . . the god of violence

Col. 3:5 “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

Pleasure, power and possessions have replaced statues, but are just as powerful in diverting people from God.

Idols will . . .
1. always disappoint you and me (Jer. 10:14, Habbakuk 2:18-19)
2. dominate you and me (also called addictions) (1 Cor. 12:2)
3. deform (change) you and me – we become like that which we idolize (Ps. 115:8)

What happens when you worship God?
1. delight you and me – fulfillment
2. deliver you and me – the truth will set you free
  – set us free from the idols
3. develope you and me (2 Corl. 3:18)

Whatever you love, you’re going to become more like. So if you worship Christ, you become more like Him.
